Description
Pyrogallol is an organic compound with the formula C6H3(OH)3. It is a white water-soluble solid although samples are typically brownish because of its sensitivity toward oxygen. It is one of three isomeric benzenetriols. Melting point: 133-134 °C , boiling point 309 °C (at normal pressure), and 171.5 °C (at a pressure of 12 mm Hg). It is readily soluble in ether, ethanol, water (40g/100ml at 13 °C) and alkali solutions. Poorly soluble in benzene, chloroform and carbon tetrachloride.
